Braves sign Guillermo Heredia off waivers from the Mets

Just as Alex Anthopoulos does every year, the late offseason lottery ticket additions are piling up. On Monday, the Braves claimed Phillip Ervin off waivers from the Cubs, and today, they continued to add to their outfield depth in the form of Guillermo Heredia.

Heredia just turned 30-years-old and is mostly known for his defense. Last season, he hit .212 with a .672 OPS and a couple of home runs in just 15 games between the Pirates and Mets. Those aren’t too far off from his career numbers at the plate — .239 average and .660 OPS. Once again, it’s far from a sexy signing, but Heredia’s addition creates more competition in spring training for the final spots on the bench.
