Braves: Vaughn Grissom has the perfect response to almost being drafted by Mets

Vaughn Grissom

In Mark Bowman’s latest Braves newsletter for MLB.com, he had a gem of a quote from Vaughn Grissom on potentially being drafted by the New York Mets.

“I thought I was going to be a Met, which would have been terrible,” Grissom said.

As if Braves Country couldn’t love Grissom more than they already do. The 21-year-old is off to an unbelievable start to his major-league career, hitting .382 with a 1.024 OPS. There’s a chance he finishes top-five in the NL Rookie of the Year race, and he’s only likely to play in 50 games.

On top of that, Grissom’s attitude seems to fit right into the Braves clubhouse dynamic. Several players have raved about how he’s kept everybody loose with his humor before every game. Oftentimes, the moment can be too big for a 21-year-old, but not for Grissom. He played just 22 games in AA before receiving the call, and I’m not sure he’ll ever spend another moment in the minors. Everything about this young man has been impressive, and he’ll be a critical piece to the puzzle if the Braves want to repeat as champions.
