While Braves fans anxiously await more information to drop regarding Max Fried’s injury, some good news did come through the pipeline today. Ahead of a tough stretch on the schedule, beginning tomorrow night against the Red Sox, Travis d’Arnaud will rejoin the team after missing multiple weeks on the concussion IL.

In his place, Sean Murphy has been a superstar, proving he’s plenty capable of catching every night if needed. I expect him to continue starting behind the plate on most days, but the Braves are going to want to manage his workload through the summer months, especially with a seven-game cushion in the division. Having Murphy rested and healthy at the end of the season is paramount to the success the Braves will have in the playoffs.

d’Arnaud will get his opportunities to catch a couple of nights a week. He’s also one of the better options to use in the designated hitter spot. Getting him back will be a huge boost for a team that is playing as well as anyone right now. And it couldn’t come at a better time, with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Mariners, Dodgers, and Phillies next up on the schedule.
