Braves: Charlie Morton will miss the rest of the World Series with injury

The Braves couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to their first World Series in 22 years. They scored in each of the first three innings and led the Astros by five runs entering the bottom half of the third. Then… another nightmare occurred. After striking out the first batter of the inning, Charlie Morton landed awkwardly and immediately pulled himself from the game. The injury actually occurred the inning before when a hard line drive hit off of his leg. Morton attempted to battle through it, but it quickly swelled up and became too painful. There was hope that he might have avoided a serious injury, but those hopes were quickly dashed. The Braves didn’t hesitate to perform X-Rays, and they revealed a fractured right fibula.

Obviously, Charlie Morton’s injury will keep him out for the rest of the World Series, creating yet another obstacle the Braves must overcome to capture their first championship since 1995. However, with everything they’ve already been through this season, if there’s anyone that can do it, it’s the Braves. Still, it creates quite the dilemma. Outside of Max Fried and Ian Anderson, Brian Snitker doesn’t have another reliable starter to turn to.

Huascar Ynoa was already lost for the season during the NLCS, but the Braves did add Kyle Wright to the roster, who could start out of emergency. As of now, that looks likely. Atlanta can also replace Morton on the roster, which could mean an appearance from Kyle Muller or Spencer Strider.
