Desmond Ridder joins Matt Ryan as only Falcons QB to do this…

NFL: AUG 04 Atlanta Falcons Training Camp

Desmond Ridder is coming off the best game of his young Falcons career, throwing for nearly 330 yards on 75.7% completion to go along with a score on the ground and through the air.

The performance makes him one of two quarterbacks in Falcons history to throw for 300+ yards and rush for a touchdown, joining Matt Ryan, who will ironically be in the booth for Ridder’s next start against the Commanders this Sunday.

It’s not exactly an impressive feat, but I guess that’s more of a reflection of the Falcons’ unsung franchise history. Still, it puts Ridder in elite company within the organization.

Matt Ryan will get a first-hand glimpse of his potential long-term successor on Sunday as he calls the club’s Week 6 tilt for CBS. Ridder is looking to build off what is by far the best game of his nine starts, and he’ll have a pretty good chance to do that against the Falcons’ next opponents.

The Commanders made Justin Fields look like an MVP-caliber quarterback last week on national television. Atlanta’s offense still hasn’t played a full four quarters, but Wahsington’s defense could prove to be a get-right matchup.

Ryan has spent the 2023 season in the booth calling games for CBS as he hopes to potentially get a call to return to the field. Apparently, when Aaron Rodgers went down with a season-ending Achilles injury, Ryan’s representatives reached out to the Jets, to which New York politely declined.

Unfortunately, it may be time for Matty Ice to hang up his cleats. Returning to Mercedes-Benz Stadium surely won’t make that potential decision any easier. He didn’t have the fondest memories in that building, but it still has to make him reminisce.

Hopefully, the Falcons and Desmond Ridder Ridder give Matt Ryan something to smile about in the booth.
