Former Falcons star signs deal with Bills

Per Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills have inked a one-year contract with former Falcons star linebacker Deion Jones.

Deion Jones was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Falcons and immediately stepped in and became a difference maker for Atlanta’s defense. His speed allowed him to flow effortlessly from sideline to sideline, but it was his coverage ability that really set him apart from the other linebackers in the league.

Over his first two seasons, Deion Jones had 21 passes defended and six interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. He was a primary reason for the Falcons defensive turnaround, which saw them become a top 10 unit in 2017.

Eventually, Jones would go on to sign a lucrative four-year contract extension ahead of the 2019 season when he was just 24-years-old. The expectation was that he would be the captain of the Falcons defense for years to come, but his play really fell off a cliff once he signed the extension, and in 2022, they dealt him to the Cleveland Browns for a late round pick swap.

Since leaving Atlanta, Deion Jones hasn’t had much success. He spent last season with the Carolina Panthers, appearing in 13 games and recording 35 tackles, six passes defended, and a sack.
