Falcons: Bears GM says Justin Fields trade could happen soon

NFL: SEP 10 Packers at Bears

The on-field drills at the NFL Combine are set to begin later this week, but executives from across the league have already arrived in Indianapolis and are taking questions from members of the media. One general manager that will be extremely popular this week is Ryan Poles of the Chicago Bears, who own the #1 overall pick.

There have been a slew of rumors surrounding the Bears in recent weeks and they will only heat up over the coming days. Most recently, NFL insider Peter King stated in his farewell column as he enters retirement that he believes Chicago will make the #1 overall pick available for the second consecutive year and keep Justin Fields. Of course, that was the primary topic of conversation when Poles met with the media today.

The Bears GM didn’t reveal a ton, but he did say in regards to a Justin Fields trade that he believes it is in the best interest of both parties to act quickly, stating he wants to do right by Fields and trade him before NFL free agency if that’s the direction they believe is best for the team.

NFL free agency is slated to begin on March 13th. That means if the Bears are going to trade Justin Fields, it likely happens within the next couple of weeks.

The NFL Combine is not only a fantastic opportunity for general managers and head coaches to get a better look at draft prospects, but it also provides a chance for teams to meet in person and get a better gauge of where teams stand when it comes to the draft and potential trades. If the Falcons are serious about potentially making a move for Justin Fields and bringing him home, I would imagine we hear a lot more about it before the end of the week.
