Falcons fans will love Bleacher Report’s second half prediction

NFL: AUG 24 Preseason Steelers at Falcons

The Falcons are making a change at quarterback. In comes Taylor Heinicke and out goes Desmond Ridder.

I’ve said on multiple occasions that there’s no way Atlanta could bench Ridder and not be waving the white flag at the same time. There’s no chance Arthur Smith can go back to Ridder unless he doesn’t care about job security or Heinicke looks like a tomato can.

For better or worse, the Falcons are rolling with Taylor Heinicke. Most fans love it, but there are some who prefer Desmond Ridder. Bleacher Report believes the job is firmly in Heinicke’s control

Atlanta Falcons: Taylor Heinicke starts the remainder of the season

They gave Desmond Ridder eight starts and the results just weren’t satisfactory. You can’t really commit much more time to a middle-round draft pick. Guy wasn’t supposed to become an NFL starter, so move on. Now, Heinicke has had some nice moments in general and is capable of keeping this team competitive in a weak division. Watch for him to keep the gig before Atlanta regroups in the offseason.

The Falcons control their own destiny, and with the bye week still ahead of them, Atlanta has the luxury of figuring out the quarterback position. There’s no reason the Falcons shouldn’t win this game against the Vikings without Kirk Cousins, but even if they do somehow lose to a rookie fifth-round pick making his NFL debut, the sky isn’t falling in Atlanta.

The club could lose every game for the rest of the season, and as long as they take care of business in the division, they’ll end that playoff drought. Figuring out the quarterback position before the bye week is important because the Falcons will host the Saints in Atlanta following that off week.
