Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting at 10:00 AM that the Falcons have come to terms with Jake Matthews
“The #Falcons and star LT Jake Matthews are finalizing a 5-year, $75M deal, source said. Atlanta has a young core to pay, and Matthews gets the first crack as a top 3-paid LT.” – @RapSheet
Rapoport also added:
“When the #Falcons adjusted WR Julio Jones’ deal, they made sure they could still reward LT Jake Matthews, DT Grady Jarrett and S Ricardo Allen. Now that Matthews & ATL have agreed to terms, Allen & Jarrett are next. Big moves early in camp for the #Falcons” – @RapSheet
With Matthews locked up, you have to think Dimitroff turns his attention to Grady Jarrett. The Falcons are going to do their best to keep Ricardo Allen, but he’s expendable considering the amount of depth the team has in the secondary. With the Falcons being weak across the defensive line, especially in the interior, Jarrett is not. Kudos to the front office for getting their guys locked up, as you do not want your franchise left tackle hitting the open market. Hopefully the Falcons can come to terms with Jarrett soon before Julio’s negotiations kick off next summer.
