Falcons: I’m going to miss Javon Alex Mack

With Alex Mack officially being listed as inactive, the career of one of the greatest free agent signings in Falcons history is probably done — at least in Atlanta.

Alex Mack has been one of my favorite Falcons since Day 1. You can’t overvalue having a smart and fantastic center like Mack — he was a huge part of Atlanta’s Super Bowl run and the offensive success under Kyle Shanahan. Although Dirk Koetter is allergic to running the ball, the Iron Man still made 99 straight starts before missing the Kansas City game in Week 16. Alex was always one of the constants on this Falcons team and made a pretty bad (at times) O-Line a lot better. His leadership will be missed even more. Matt Hennessy is the heir apparent to Mack’s role, and even though he’s struggled so far, he would have big shoes to fill even if he didn’t.
