Falcons: Mike Florio reports Kirk Cousins “seriously considering” a move to Atlanta

NFL: OCT 01 Vikings at Panthers

The buzz surrounding a potential Kirk Cousins marriage with the Falcons continued to build Monday night after several plugged-in insiders like Dianna Russini and Dan Graziano connected the pair.

“Over the next month, I’m keeping an eye on the Falcons. They believe Cousins is the type of player who moves them from a fringe playoff team to a contender. New Atlanta head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson both have familiarity with Cousin,” Russini said.

Graziano added in a separate report that the Falcons prefer Kirk Cousins over Justin Fields.

“Should that happen, I expect the Falcons to make a strong pursuit. I have been told by multiple sources this week that signing Cousins — not trading for Justin Fields — is the Falcons’ top QB solution, assuming Cousins makes it to free agency,” Graziano said.

Now, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is releasing some information of his own.

“We can’t get into the specifics, for now. But we’re getting very credible indications that Cousins is seriously considering moving his family to Atlanta,” Florio writes. “Which would mean, obviously, that he’d be signing with the Falcons.

The Falcons have always been the top alternative to the Vikings for Cousins, who becomes an unrestricted free agent next Wednesday. And for good reason. His wife, Julie, grew up in nearby Alpharetta, Georgia. Her parents still live there.”

It’s a very ambiguous report from Florio, and a bit odd that he couldn’t get in specifics, but it is yet another NFL insider connecting the Falcons to Kirk Cousins. Over the next week, this picture will become more clear. But as Jeremey Fowler of ESPN said, it seems very likely one of Cousins, Baker Mayfield, or Justin Fields will be under center for the Falcons Week 1.

“As one league source put it, Atlanta has done enough work on Fields, Cousins and Baker Mayfield that the chances of coming away with one of them are fairly good,” Fowler wrote.
