In a bit of unsurprising news, Ricardo Allen and Allen Bailey have been cut by the Falcons.

There’s a typo here, as Allen is a safety, but these were two cuts that were very much expected — just maybe not this early. By cutting Ricardo Allen, Atlanta saves $6.25 million with a penalty of $2.125 million. By releasing Allen Bailey, the Falcons save $4.5 million with a penalty of $1.625 million. If you want to read about some other possible cap casualties and restructures, you can find them here.

Terry Fontenot isn’t messing around. With news that the cap floor is now $180 million, the Falcons will have more money to spend than fans originally thought. Terry Fontenot has made it clear he wants to fill needs in free agency and take the best player available in the draft, so more space will be cleared via cuts. I expect several moves to come soon, and names like James Carpenter are surely to be on the chopping block as well. With players like Corey Linsley, Desmond King, and Carl Lawson available at positions of need — this is only the beginning.
