In what is an extremely high vote of confidence in his first selection as Falcons General Manager, Terry Fontenot reveals what fans thought was behind the smokescreen all along:

Fontenot praises Pitts for his poise and leadership, something Atlanta made a point of in this draft. The organization targeted a lot of high-character guys, including a handful of team captains. The icing on the cake for Fontenot is he got an incredible player on top of being a great man.
At 20 years old, Kyle Pitts is one of the most physically impressive prospects one could find at any position. His catch radius is incomprehensible for most players, and he should immediately make an impact helping Atlanta win now. One thing is clear, the Falcons had a plan from the beginning, and they got their guy… now it’s up to the coaching staff to put them in a position to make the pick look even better.
