Falcons vs. Texans: Keys to Game

NFL: SEP 10 Panthers at Falcons

The Falcons come home after a two-week hiatus in which they were demolished by the Lions and Jaguars to face the C.J. Stroud-led Texans in Week 5.

The football team in Houston has been the surprise of the early part of the season. Stroud is an early favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, leading the Texans to a 2-2 record. He’s averaging over 300 yards per game and has six touchdowns compared to zero interceptions.

However, Stroud will be up against his stiffest test come Sunday. While the Falcons offense has been among the worst in football, their defense is quietly one of the best, led by the new additions in Jessie Bates III, David Onyemata, and Calais Campbell. Atlanta is top ten in nearly every notable defensive category, and they’ve had success against young quarterbacks early this season, leading the Falcons to victories over the Panthers and Packers.

Coming into the season, this looked like one that you could chalk up as a win for the Falcons, but DeMeco Ryans has the Texans playing hard, and they could be a sneaky playoff contender if Stroud continues to ascend at such an alarming pace.

On the latest episode of SportsTalkATL, we break down our keys to this matchup between the Falcons and Texans.
