Hawks: Important notes from the 2021-2022 schedule

I swear the NBA season just ended, but exactly two months from tomorrow, Atlanta will take the court at State Farm Arena on opening night against the Dallas Mavericks, pitting Trae Young against Luka Doncic. That game will take place on TNT — the first of 19 national TV games on the schedule for the Hawks during the 2021-2022 season. Four games will take place on TNT, nine will be on ESPN, one will be on ABC, and five more will be on NBA TV.

Of course, among those games is the infamous one that will take place at Madison Square Garden against the Knicks on Christmas Day. It’s the Hawks first Christmas Day game since 1989, which is the longest drought in the NBA. Per usual, the Hawks will also play on MLK day in what will be an Eastern Conference Finals rematch versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

Over the course of the season, the Hawks will play 14 back-to-backs, but they do get a little bit of a schedule break. They play every Eastern Conference team four times, except Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Detroit. The Pistons may be the worst team in basketball, but the other teams were the top three seeds in the East last season. The Hawks end their season on the road against Miami and Houston (April 10th).
