It pays to be a star in the NBA. Trae Young inked a five-year contract extension with the Hawks worth over $200 million, and he’s made a monster purchase, buying a $20 million house in Southern California that was previously owned by Clay Matthews.

As you can see, Young will be surrounded by celebrities. And I already know there might be some unnecessary speculation, but no, Young is not being traded to the Lakers.

There has been a lot of turmoil surrounding the Hawks superstar point guard early this year. Atlanta has been one of the more underwhelming teams in the NBA this season, and Young is off to the worst start statistically of his career since he was a rookie. Combine that with his recent spat with head coach Nate McMillan, and there’s reason to begin questioning whether Young is capable of being the leader of a perennial contender.

As a team, it’s looking like the Hawks might have to totally blow things up if they want to turn into a championship contender. Everyone should be on the trade block, outside of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, and I’m expecting major changes prior to the trade deadline unless things turn around dramatically.
