The Atlanta Braves have announced that Melvin Upton Jr. is to be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks with inflammation in the bone behind the ball of his left foot. According to Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, Upton will be in a cast for two weeks and a walking boot for 4-6 weeks. This is not good news for Braves fans. With Upton’s struggles in the last couple years, Spring Training was supposed to be a crucial time for him to make some strides with new hitting coach Kevin Seitzer. Missing Spring Training has a big impact on players’ performance throughout the year, as the Braves went through a similar situation with Mike Minor last season. Upton is expected to resume baseball activities in April. We hope for a speedy recovery from Melvin and will update the story as needed.
