Paul Byrd reveals why is he isn’t returning to Braves broadcast team in 2023

The Braves will have several new faces in the broadcast booth in 2023. Brandon Gaudin will be taking over play-by-play duties for Chip Caray, who is joining the Cardinals booth as their play-by-play announcer. Tom Glavine will also be returning for about 35 to 40 games, while other longtime members of the booth — Brian Jordan and Paul Byrd — will not be around in 2023.

Jordan was asked to return but decided against it. Byrd was also asked back for the upcoming season but will not be a part of the team because of personal reasons, which he talked about in a message to Braves country.

Some people have differing opinions of Paul Byrd, but I loved what he brought to the Braves broadcasts. His quirkiness provided a sense of humor, and he offered a unique perspective as a former major-league pitcher.

Byrd’s presence as a member of the broadcast team will be missed, but I couldn’t think of a better reason for him to be missing time away from the team. Prayers up to him and his family. Hopefully, everything shakes back to normal and he can be around the park occasionally; maybe we will even see him back on Braves broadcasts in 2024.
