Reigning NBA champion: Trae Young is one of the most underrated players in the league

Trae Young was snubbed from the 2023 FIBA World Cup roster because he’s one of the most underrated players in the league.

The Hawks superstar averaged 26.2 points and 10.2 assists but wasn’t rewarded with All-Star honors, which fans, players, and coaches vote on.

The fact is the league doesn’t like Trae Young for whatever reason, and it seems only the people who are close to him know the person and player he is. Reigning NBA champion Michael Portor Jr. is the latest to come to Young’s defense, stating he’d put Trae up there with pretty much anyone.

Even among point guards, Young is underrated. He’s consistently left out of the top five, despite putting up as good or better numbers than any player at the position.

He’s got unlimited range as well as an elite midrange game powered by his floater. Moreover, Young is arguably the most dynamic playmaker in the game. There aren’t many with a higher basketball IQ and passing ability than him.

I’m not sure why he’s garnered this villain label, but he certainly played into it during the Hawks 2021 Eastern Conference Finals run, flashing his skill on the biggest stage in Madison Square Garden and then ending The Process in Philadelphia.

The truth is Young is a killer on the court. He’s not there to make friends. Off the court, I’m sure he’s a great guy, but it’s war on the hardwood, and there aren’t many in this league with the type of mentality he approaches the game with.
