Saints waive former Falcons WR Bryan Edwards

NFL: OCT 30 Panthers at Falcons

No front office is perfect in the NFL. GMs never bat 1.000, but Terry Fontenot has done a decent job making moves to improve the roster. However, the trades that the Falcons have made haven’t exactly worked out.

Jeff Okudah is the latest acquisition, but the jury is still out on that move. He’s yet to make his Falcons debut and likely won’t for a few more weeks because he’s dealing with an ankle injury. Still, we have one trade that didn’t pan out for Atlanta.

After trading the Raiders a fifth-round pick, the Falcons shortly placed Bryan Edwards on waivers. Over the offseason, he signed a free agent deal with the Saints to join his former quarterback, Derek Carr, in New Orleans.

However, the Aints also waived the veteran wideout, according to Field Yates.

During his time in Atlanta, the 2020 third-round pick recorded a whopping three catches and 15 yards after racking up nearly 600 yards in 2021.

Edwards was a healthy scratch several times and only logged 89 total snaps, 35 of which came in Week 1. The trade clearly didn’t work out for the Falcons. He failed to produce at the same level that he did in Las Vegas but reuniting with his former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in the Big Easy was thought to be the spark needed.

After all, Edwards most productive season came with Carr throwing him passes in 2021. However, it’s clear he’s lost a step or didn’t work out for whatever reason. The Saints do have a talented receiver room, so it could just be a tough hand dealt to Edwards.
