The AP Poll was released earlier this week, setting up a clash between #1 Georgia and #3 Tennessee. However, those roles will now be reversed following the College Football Playoff committee’s first release of their rankings. They have the Vols ranked #1, with Georgia coming in at #3. Here’s how the rest of the rankings look:

  1. Tennessee
  2. Ohio State
  3. Georgia
  4. Clemson
  5. Michigan
  6. Alabama
  7. TCU
  8. Oregon
  9. USC
  10. LSU
  11. Ole Miss
  12. UCLA
  13. Kansas State
  14. Utah
  15. Penn State
  16. Illinois
  17. North Carolina
  18. Oklahoma State
  19. Tulane
  20. Syracuse
  21. Wake Forrest
  22. NC State
  23. Oregon State
  24. Texas
  25. UCF

With over a month left of football before the College Football Playoff committee chooses their final four teams, almost all of this will settle itself out. In fact, a lot of it will happen this weekend in the SEC, with Tennessee traveling to Georgia and LSU hosting Alabama.

Despite Georgia being ranked two spots below Tennessee, they remain more than a touchdown favorite over the Vols, and I have a feeling this is just more bulletin board material for Kirby Smart to use leading up to Saturday.

In the other marquee SEC matchups, Alabama is nearly a two-touchdown favorite over LSU in Baton Rouge, where the Tide have dominated the Tigers over the last decade.
