The Braves claim a player from the Dodgers and designate Travis Demeritte for assignment

Travis Demeritte designated for assignment

One of the better stories to begin the 2022 season, utility man Travis Demeritte, has been designated for assignment by the Braves. This was done to make room for Rylan Bannon, an infielder from the Dodgers:

It’s sad to see Travis Demeritte designated for assignment. I was really pulling for him, but he was struggling in the majors and AAA after a hot start to 2022. He gave Braves fans some fun moments when they really needed them, and I’ll always be thankful for that. Hopefully, he can stick around if he isn’t claimed.

Bannon was an 8th round pick by the Dodgers in 2017, and he was actually part of the Manny Machado trade that saw him sent to Baltimore. He debuted in May of 2022 but hasn’t gotten much burn in the majors. I think he makes for fine organizational depth with some upside. The Dodgers claimed him on August 8th, but he was designated for assignment before appearing in any games. In AAA this season, Bannon has a .754 OPS with 14 home runs and 11 doubles.
