Trading for Zach Ertz would launch Matt Ryan back into MVP discussions in 2021

With the news that Zach Ertz won’t be returning to the Eagles, the Falcons should be willing to throw their name in the hat to bring him to Atlanta.

With Ertz’s former tight end’s coach Justin Peelle in town, there should obviously be some mutual interest between the parties. While Ertz had a down 2020, the Eagles dismal quarterback play undoubtedly played into this. We’re talking about a guy who is a season removed from being in the Travis Kelce and George Kittle discussion. I listed some restructure candidates that can help Atlanta save some money, and pairing Hurst with Ertz would give Atlanta a dynamic and athletic one-two punch at tight end.

While the tight end position isn’t Atlanta’s biggest need, perhaps Philly would be interested in some of Atlanta’s younger defensive backs or Ricardo Allen, along with some draft capital to fill needs and make the financials work. This would be a luxury pickup, but Ertz would give Matt Ryan another weapon in the passing game to help get this offense back to a Super Bowl-caliber unit.
