Which Falcons could be on the roster bubble after the 2023 draft? (Defense)

DKB211226087 det vs atl

Unlike in years past, the Falcons have a full roster of competent players, and they’re going to have to make some tough cuts. There are a few players — some drafted by this regime — that could be let go. Today, I’m going to focus on the defense; and there are plenty of guys on the chopping block. I’m going to profile a few of the less obvious candidates instead of fringe roster guys. Offense is linked below:

Defensive Line

DL Joe Gaziano

DL Jalen Dalton

DL Timmy Horne

This is a group that could see a serious culling, for obvious reasons. The Falcons totally revamped their defensive line, and even though they brought in Gaziano in free agency, I don’t think he’s safe. Dalton and Horne were solid contributors last year, but they are by no means locks with the depth this group has now.

EDGE

EDGE Ade Ogundeji

Unfortunately, I think Ogundeji is going to have an uphill battle to make this roster. The Falcons not only have some free agent additions at EDGE, but they also have three more recent draft picks ahead of him. He hasn’t performed well, so this offseason is going to be critical for him.

Linebacker

LB Mykal Walker

I don’t think the Falcons will part ways with Mykal Walker unless they bring in another veteran, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility. He needs to have a good camp to solidify his role.

Secondary

N/A

Maybe Jaylinn Hawkins could have a tough battle for a spot, but unless the Falcons bring someone else in, I think he’s safe.
