Braves: A good sign Ozzie Albies won’t be out for long

The 2023 Braves are making a strong case for the best team in franchise history. Seemingly nothing can stop them. The only thing that matters between now and October is staying healthy.

Ozzie Albies recently had a brief scare as he was removed from last Sunday night’s game against the Mets with what was initially diagnosed as a cramp. However, the All-Star second baseman still felt some soreness the following day in his hamstring, and the Braves decided some rest would be what’s best for him in the long term, placing him on the 10-day IL.

Soft tissue injuries can be tricky. With a 12.5-game lead in the division, there is no reason for the Braves to take any chances with a player as valuable as Albies. However, this move does appear to be more precautionary than anything. Albies was placed on the IL on August 14th. Four days later, and he’s already been spotted doing running drills on the field ahead of the Braves contest against the Giants.

If the playoffs were today, I don’t think there’s any chance Albies would not be playing. The Braves did the right thing, but it shouldn’t be much longer before we see him back in the starting lineup.
