Just after noon eastern time, eight hours before the first pitch of Game 1 of the World Series is expected to take place, the Braves have made their World Series roster official. And like every round, there are a few surprises.

Starting Pitchers

  1. Ian Anderson
  2. Charlie Morton
  3. Max Fried

  1. Travis d’Arnaud
  2. William Contreras

  1. Freddie Freeman
  2. Austin Riley
  3. Dansby Swanson
  4. Ozzie Albies
  5. Orland Arcia
  6. Ehire Adrianza

  1. Guillermo Heredia
  2. Jorge Soler
  3. Adam Duvall
  4. Joc Pederson
  5. Eddie Rosario
  6. Terrance Gore

  1. Jesse Chavez
  2. Luke Jackson
  3. Dylan Lee
  4. Tyler Matzek
  5. Drew Smyly
  6. Kyle Wright
  7. Will Smith
  8. Chris Martin
  9. A.J. Minter

Most things stayed the same, but the big surprise is Kyle Wright making the World Series roster. The former #5 overall pick out of Vandy has only made two starts in the majors this season, with the last one coming on June 23rd. His 9.95 ERA is unsightly; however, he did finish as one of the top pitchers in AAA baseball this season, posting a 10-5 record with a 3.02 ERA. There’s no questioning his talent. His stuff is filthy, but I’m unsure how the Braves can trust him this deep into the season. He’s likely strictly being carried to use if things get out of hand.

Terrance Gore also makes an appearance on the World Series roster. With the DH coming into play in games in Houston, the Braves shouldn’t need as many pinch-hitters in this series, creating a spot for the speedy Gore. It’s also not like Johan Camargo was providing much in the batter’s box. He finishes his 2021 campaign 0-20 at the plate in the majors, despite having a very productive season for the Stripers.
