Ex Falcons head coach Dan Quinn once again a hot commodity

NFL: NOV 05 Cowboys at Eagles

As the Falcons begin their search for a head coach, a familiar face is also in the hiring pool among the candidates. Dan Quinn is once again a hot commodity.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Panthers, Commanders, and Chargers have put in requests to interview the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

And with an opening now in Seattle following Pete Carroll’s decision to step aside, Ian Rapoport suggests Dan Quinn’s name will be at the top of that list as well.

The Falcons haven’t officially requested to interview any potential candidates, but they have consistently been linked to Bill Belichick, who is currently still the head coach of the Patriots.

It does seem notable that Atlanta hasn’t been linked to any other candidate other than New England’s head coach amid questions about his future in Foxborough. Generally with these things, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Quinn, on the other hand, has declined head coaching opportunities for two cycles, deciding to stay in Dallas as the Cowboys defensive coordinator, where he’s once again thrived.

Though his tenure in Atlanta didn’t quite work out as many had hoped, most notably being the guy who facilitated the greatest Super Bowl collapse in history, Quinn’s ability to churn out elite defenses as a coordinator hasn’t lost him.

The Falcons never had as good of units with Quinn as he had in Seattle or Dallas, but a lot of that has to do with talent. One thing that hasn’t changed at each stop is his players’ love for him.

Dan Quinn is still one of the most beloved coaches in the league. Most recently, the NFLPA surveyed players asking them which coordinators would they most like to play for, and Quinn came in as the third highest-voted defensive coordinator.

The former Falcons head coach will require something close to a perfect opportunity to leave Dallas, but Los Angeles and Washington must be enticing.
