Initial thoughts on Braves trade deadline needs and targets

Braves trade deadline

The trade deadline is set to be a weird one. Thanks to the expanded playoffs, there aren’t going to be many teams punting on the season by the time August comes around. So, there could be some situations where contenders are trading with other contenders, which was almost unheard of in the past. It is going to be much more difficult for teams to significantly upgrade. The prices on the top guys are going to be sky high due to the number of potential suitors, but if you’re the Braves, that shouldn’t be much of a concern.

There aren’t many rosters, if any, as complete as the Braves right now. They don’t need to make any blockbuster additions to be considered championship caliber. They could head into October as is and have as good of a shot as anyone at winning the World Series. However, Alex Anthopoulos is rarely a GM that sits on his hands come the trade deadline. I expect him to make at least one substantial addition, if not multiple.

On the latest episode of SportsTalkATL, we discuss the biggest needs for the Braves heading into the trade deadline, and some potential targets to keep an eye on.
