World Series odds for Braves and MLB

The playoffs are upon us, as the Wild Card Series is set to begin today. This is the first year of the new playoff format, which means 12 teams remain instead of eight. In baseball, every team that makes the dance has more than a puncher’s chance of winning, but some teams are in a much better position than others, and according to Vegas, the Braves have some of the best World Series odds of anybody.

If I had to lay some cash down, I think the best bet would be the Astros. They’ve shown they can perform in the postseason, and the National League is much tougher than the American League. I also like the Braves World Series odds at 5/1, given they won’t have to play the Dodgers until the NLCS and have proven they match up very well with Los Angeles.

For long shots, I like the Blue Jays, Mariners, and Cardinals. The Blue Jays and Mariners are two young and exciting teams that have enough firepower and pitching to give the Astros and whoever else stands in their way a run for their money. On the other hand, while the Cardinals may be the most boring team in the playoffs, they have loads of playoff experience and a very good pitching staff. Plus, they are sending off Albert Pujols, Adam Wainwright, and Yadier Molina. If the baseball gods are real, they are on the Cardinals side.

The bets I would stay away from are the Dodgers and Yankees. Los Angeles is one of the top teams in baseball, but they are dealing with a boatload of injuries. Plus, they have similar odds every year, and they have only gotten it done once… in a year where fans weren’t allowed in stadiums. The Yankees just aren’t a very good team. They’ve been average for quite some time now, and they are also dealing with injuries. The fact that they have the same odds as the Braves is comical, and the only reason that’s the case is because there are a bunch of hopeful Yankees fans putting money on them.
