Atlanta United’s striker Josef Martinez has been named the 2018 MLS MVP, also known as the Landon Donovan MVP Award.
This season, Martinez scored 31 goals in the regular season, enough to earn to him the golden boot and to break the single-season scoring record of 27 goals.
So far in the playoffs, the Venezuelan native has netted three goals and has also scored 50 goals in 54 appearances.
Martinez has become the fifth athlete to win a MVP award while representing the city of Atlanta. Other MVP award winners include Braves’ Chipper Jones, Dale Murphy, Terry Pendleton and Falcons’ Matt Ryan.
Josef, along with the rest of the Atlanta United squad, will be looking to end the season on a high note Saturday night, as they will host MLS Cup against the Portland Timbers. Kickoff will be at 8 p.m. ET.
